A key report filed Monday to the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies Ethics Committee recommends a full investigation of corruption allegations against Chamber Speaker Eduardo Cunha. The report was filed by Congressman Fausto Pinato, a committee member charged by the full ethics panel with determining whether sufficient evidence exists for a full probe into Cunha’s financial affairs. Pinato found that such evidence exists. The full committee could debate and vote on the report as early as this week. The committee is reviewing allegations that Cunha may have received bribe money from contractors in order to favor them in negotiating contracts with state-run oil company Petrobras. Cunha has denied the charges.
