Industrial production posts whopping 16% year-on-year growth

Brazilian industrial production posted a whopping 16% year-on-year growth rate in January, signaling a robust economic recovery for 2010, the Brazilian Census Bureau (IBGE) said Thursday.

Month-on-month growth in January was 1.1%, the IBGE said.

Year-on-year, 23 out of the 27 categories surveyed showed growth. Month-on-month, 14 categories expanded.

Month-on-month growth was led by steel, up 12%. Motor vehicles showed a 1.2% decline. Capital goods, in general, expanded 0.1% in the month.
