Senator Salvatti, a leader at the Brazilian Senate, will share with participants some initiatives she is leading to improve the business environment in Brazil. This will also be a great opportunity for Brazil-U.S. Business Council members and select guests to communicate to the Senator the priority issues that must addressed to enable an increase in trade and investment flows between Brazil and the United States.

Brazil-U.S. Business Council members are invited to attend the Council's annual Strategic Planning Meeting on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. The Brazil Council's largest event of the year, the Plenary brings together over 100 top executives from the largest U.S. investors in Brazil and Brazil's leading companies to discuss private sector priorities for the bilateral and hemispheric trade and investment agenda with top decision-makers from Brasília and Washington. On November 6, the Brazil-U.S. Business Council will host A Roundtable Discussion on Brazilian Foreign Trade Policies featuring Welber Barral, Foreign Trade Secretary at the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade. The event will take place at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC.

Dr. Barral will brief participants on the priorities of the Brazilian Office of Foreign Trade for 2009 and beyond. The meeting will also provide companies with a unique opportunity to share their thoughts and offer suggestions on steps that can be taken to improve the business environment in Brazil.

For the tenth year, the Brazil-U.S. Business Council will lead a high-level delegation of corporate executives from our U.S. and Brazilian sections to Brasília for two days of meetings with top officials in the Lula administration, the Congress, and regulatory agencies to discuss our member companies' 2009 policy goals.

On April 24, the Brazil-U.S. Business Council hosted Henrique Meirelles, President of the Central Bank of Brazil. Mr. Meirelles shared his outlook for the Brazilian economy in 2009 and commented on how the U.S. and Brazil can play a leadership role in addressing the global financial crisis.

Mr. Burrill will highlight the role of biotechnology and innovation in creating jobs, improving productivity and quality of life, and share his outlook for the industry in key markets like Brazil over the coming years.
