A Brazilian federal judge on Tuesday froze some R$103 million in assets belonging to the country’s former ruling party, the PT (Partido dos Trabalhadores), and 39 current and former party officers. The judge froze the assets as part of an investigation into alleged corruption involving PT fund raising, saying the funds may have been illegally obtained. In a statement, the party protested the action, saying its leaders had not engaged in any illegal fund raising. The PT lost power when Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was impeached, for alleged violations of budget laws, in April.
