The Brazilian Trade Council (Camex) on Wednesday cut tariffs on 42 autoparts and 10 components for electronics goods. Tariffs were cut from a previous range of 16 – 18 percent to a flat 2 percent. Various types of electronic sensors used by the auto industry were among the items listed by Camex. Components used in data processing, telecommunications, transportation and even air conditioning were also listed. The action comes after industry complaints about parts shortages. Some auto makers announced slowdowns and stoppages of assembly lines due to lack of parts.
