Brazil panel to review impeachment motion next week

April 1, 2016 by

A special committee of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies will begin its review of a motion to impeach President Dilma Rousseff next Thursday, April 7, and could vote on the question as early as Monday, April 11, a key congressman said Friday. Congressman Jovair Arantes is preparing a report and recommendations on impeachment for presentation to the full committee. He told reporters he will deliver his findings no later than April 7. “I expect a final committee vote on the question by the following Monday (April 11),” he told reporters. According to press reports, a vote on impeachment by the full Chamber of Deputies is likely before the end of April. Rousseff faces charges that she manipulated federal budget rules and tolerated widespread corruption.
