Brazilian Federal Police on Wednesday arrested 10 people in connection with a spreading scandal involving Eletronuclear, the state-run company that controls the country’s two functioning nuclear-powered generators. The 10 included six current Eletronuclear employees and four former employees, including a former CEO. The company’s current CEO, Pedro Diniz Figueiredo, has taken leave-of-absence while the investigation continues. Police allege that the current and former employees participated in a scam to fix contract bidding. They say the scam resulted in losses to the company of some R$48 million from 2008 through 2014.
