Brazil’s government on Friday released the tender for a scheduled July auction of controlling stakes in six electric power distributors, currently controlled by state utilities holding company Eletrobras. Sale of the distributors is considered an essential step before the partial privatization of Eletrobras itself. All six distributors are located in the Amazon or adjacent regions. Under Friday’s tender, bidders are invited to file qualifying papers and proposals on July 19. The auction will be conducted on July 26. Bidding is open to domestic and foreign companies. However, any given company is limited to participation in only one consortium.
