Brazil Senate panel votes to proceed with impeachment

August 4, 2016 by

A select committee of the Brazilian Senate on Thursday voted to proceed with impeachment and removal of the country’s President, Dilma Rousseff. The committee vote was 14-5. The full Senate will vote next week on whether to proceed with a full-dress procedure to remove the President permanently from office. If the Senate votes to proceed, a final vote on Rousseff’s future is likely for early September.
