Brazil’s Federal Tax Authority on Thursday issued an order streamlining import and export procedures for the repair and maintenance of aviation equipment. The order is part of a drive by Brazil’s government to ease customs procedures and speed up shipments for both imports and exports. In issuing the order, the authority noted the need for airlines to obtain parts and components for aircraft and other equipment in timely fashion. It is also often necessary to ship equipment overseas for maintenance and then ship it back to Brazil. The order aims to eliminate some steps in shipment bureaucracy while speeding up others. The authority estimates savings for the Brazilian airline industry at R$37 million per year.
