Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Teori Zavascki, 68, was killed in the crash of a small, private plane on Thursday, the government’s official news agency confirmed. The plane, with four people on board, crashed near the Rio de Janeiro resort town of Paraty, the agency said. The crash occurred during a period of heavy rain. Zavascki was in charge of cases related to the so-called Lava Jato scandal, a sweeping federal investigation of corruption in government, state-run oil company Petrobras and private contractors. Zavascki’s replacement on the 11-member court will be named by President Michel Temer.
