Brazilian President Michel Temer on Friday signed a bill setting aside $3 billion to meet arrears payments owed to a score of international organizations. The organizations cover areas including trade, education, health and communications. The organizations represent various arms of the United Nations, the Organization of America States and the Mercosul trade group, among others. The payments are part of a government drive to increase Brazil’s visibility and participation in the global arena.
