Brazilian Federal Police on Wednesday arrested former Rio de Janeiro Governor and presidential candidate Anthony Garotinho, the official government news agency said. Police arrested Garotinho on charges of abuse of government funds and vote-buying. Garotinho was governor of Brazil’s third largest state from 1999 to 2002. He was a presidential candidate in the 2002 election. The arrest was another in a long line of high-profile officials and business executives as police probe into various corruption scandals nationwide.
