Brazilian retail sales fell by 0.5% in July against the previous month, the third monthly decline in a row, the Brazilian Census Bureau (IBGE) said Thursday. Big ticket items led the decline while supermarket sales rose. The results reflect increasingly uncertain economic scenarios, with investors and consumers worried about the outcome of October elections and prospects for jobs and economic growth. Continued high levels of consumer debt are also weighing on retail sales, economists said.
