Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has signed a law substantially de-regulating the telecommunications industry, opening the door to more investment, including by multinational companies. The new law was published by the Federal Register Friday. The law allows fixed-phone operators to shift from the highly restrictive concession contracts currently in force to a conventional authorization regime. Authorizations are managed by the National Telecommunications Authority (Anatel), which already oversees segments such as mobile phones and Internet communications.
