Brazil’s government announces list of 57 new concessions, privatizations

August 23, 2017 by

The Brazilian government on Wednesday announced an extensive new list of projects and companies for privatization or the sale of long-term concessions. The list totals 57 and covers areas such as highways, airports, high-tension power transmission lines, port terminals and utilities via the partial privatization of utilities holding company Eletrobras. The list also includes a federal lottery and the National Mint. The announcement was made by the Board of Directors of the Investment Partnership Program (PPI). The government expects to bring in at least R$44 billion from the privatizations and concessions. Among properties up for grabs is the concession to Congonhas, the second largest airport in São Paulo. In 2016, the government announced the first round of concessions and privatizations, which totaled 31. The government is expected to announce more details on the concessions and privatizations in the coming weeks.
