Brazil’s state-run oil company Petrobras set a new monthly record for domestic production of crude oil, the company said Monday. Output was again led by the so-called pre-salt region, an ultra-deep offshore area. Brazil’s Congress recently opened the pre-salt region to private investors, including foreign oil and gas developers. Petrobras, in September, posted record domestic crude oil output of 2.24 million barrels per day, up 8.8% from September of 2015. Roughly half of production, some 1.17 million barrels per day, came from the pre-salt region. Overall output is rising because of continued heavy investments in the pre-salt region, Petrobras said.
