A series of pre-Christmas promotions led to a major rebound in Brazilian retail sales in November, the Brazilian Census Bureau (IBGE) said Tuesday. Retail sales in November rose 0.7% against October and 5.9% against November of 2016, the IBGE said. Retail volume rose in most categories, including a 0.8% month-on-month advance for supermarkets. But the big winner was household appliances, which spurted ahead by 6.1% against the previous month as retail chains put on a series of pre-Christmas promotions to reel in consumers. Economists are predicting further advances for retailers in 2018 on tame inflation, declining interest rates and increased employment opportunities.
