Ex-Finance Minister questioned in Brazil corruption case

Former Brazilian Finance Minister Guido Mantega (2005-2014) was brought in for questioning by Federal Police on Monday in connection with an ongoing probe into influence-peddling. Police said Mantega was placed under temporary arrest but will likely be released later Monday. Police on Monday also interrogated 14 others in the case and executed 12 search warrants. Police are investigating allegations of influence-peddling during the period when Mantega was Finance Minister. They allege that Mantega and others used their influence to aid businesses avoid payment of tax arrears.
