Federal Police arrest head of Brazilian Olympic Committee on vote-buying charges

October 5, 2017 by

Federal Police on Thursday arrested Carlos Arthur Nuzman, President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, on charges of vote-buying. They also arrested one other person and executed multiple search warrants in search of evident related to the alleged vote-buying scheme. Police said Nuzman headed a conspiracy to buy votes in the International Olympic Committee to make Rio de Janeiro the site of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. They said the arrests came after a multi-year investigation in conjunction with police in France, the United States and other countries. They will ask a Brazilian court to freeze Nuzman’s assets. Spokesmen for Nuzman and for the Brazilian committee had no immediate comment on the arrests.
