Brazil’s traditional optimism may have returned, according to a poll released Thursday by the Public Opinion Research Institute (Ibope). The poll showed 75% of respondents saying they approve of President-elect Jair Bolsonaro’s first moves, which include naming of a 22-member Cabinet. Only 14% said they disapprove. Some 64% said they expect the Bolsonaro administration to be “good” or “very good” for the country, while 66% said they expect Brazil’s economy to improve in 2019. Bolsonaro was elected in October. He takes office on January 1. Ibope conducted the nationwide poll for the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).
