Congresswoman Tereza Cristina will be Brazil’s next Agriculture Minister, a spokesman for President-elect Jair Bolsonaro told reporters. She is the sixth Cabinet member and the first woman to be named by the President-elect, who takes office January 1. Congresswoman Cristina is the Chairwoman of the Congressional Farm Bloc, which defends the interests of farmers and agribusinesses in Congress. She is a member of Brazil’s centrist Democratic Party elected from the farm state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The spokesman said Bolsonaro will no longer attempt to merge the Agriculture and Environmental Ministries, as previously suggested.
