Injunction puts temporary halt on Brazil impeachment move

December 9, 2015 by

A Supreme Court justice on Tuesday night put a temporary halt on congressional moves to impeach Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. Justice Luiz Edson Fachin halted all congressional action until the full Supreme Court reviews the impeachment proceedings at a session scheduled for December 16. Pro-administration members of Congress have questioned the rules by which the impeachment drive is being conducted. The full Supreme Court will review the rules on December 16. The Chamber of Deputies was due to impanel a special committee on impeachment later Wednesday but the move is likely to be delayed in accordance with the injunction.
