Acting Brazilian President Michel Temer on Monday tapped experienced financial executive Maria Silva Bastos Marques to head the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES). Marques, 58, is former CEO of Brazilian steel maker CSN. She also served as Finance Secretary to the city of Rio de Janeiro. More recently, she was a financial adviser to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics Committee. Marques will be the first woman on Temer’s economic team. The BNDES is responsible for subsidized loans to Brazilian companies and holds a massive portfolio. Marques will replace Luciano Coutinho, who served for nine years as BNDES President.
