Brazil’s Ambassador to the United States, Sérgio Amaral, said Monday that U.S. and Brazilian views on trade and investment are increasingly in alignment. In a radio interview, he said, “There are opportunities for us that we should learn to take advantage of.” He said the advent of a Republican administration in Washington, sharing power with a Republican-controlled Congress, represented a historic opportunity to boost trade and bilateral investment. He specifically cited prospects for increased cooperation in areas of defense and energy. “Our [the Brazilian] presence in the U.S. is still less than it could be,” he said. “We are not realizing our full potential.”
