U.S. aviation giant Boeing has held talks with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer aimed at a buyout by the American company, according to The Wall Street Journal news service on Thursday. The newspaper quoted unnamed sources. Neither Boeing nor Embraer has commented on the story. The newspaper said both companies are now awaiting news on the position of Brazil’s government. The Brazilian government holds only a small stake in Embraer. However, it also retains a so-called “Golden Share” giving it veto power over key decisions. The government retained the veto power following privatization of Embraer in the 1990s.
