• Ibope: Despite slippage, Bolsonaro and Haddad still lead. The latest poll by the Public Opinion Research Institute (Ibope) showed marginal slippage for the two front runners, but both are still strongly positioned for a run-off later in October. The poll showed hard-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro with 27% of the vote, down from 28% a week ago, and Workers’ Party (PT) nominee Fernando Haddad with 21%, down from 22%. • Court denies Lula appeal to tape interviews, statements. Brazil’s Supreme Elections Court (STE) denied a petition by former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to tape and broadcast interviews and statements. Lula is serving a 12-year prison sentence for corruption. (see more)
• Supreme Court upholds law canceling 3.4 million voter registrations. Brazil’s Supreme Court voted 7-2 to uphold a law that will cancel 3.4 million voter registrations. The law automatically cancels registrations for voters who failed to comply with a new bio-verification order. (see more)
