- Electoral authorities meet candidate representatives to combat ‘fake news.’ Members of the Supreme Electoral Court will meet with representatives of the two presidential candidates Wednesday evening to discuss ways of eliminating ‘fake news,’ originating especially via social media. The meeting follows a report by the Inter-American Human Rights Commission pointing to widespread ‘misinformation’ among all presidential candidates during the first round of Brazilian voting this year. - Twitter feud erupts over David Duke endorsement of Bolsonaro. Leftist presidential candidate Fernando Haddad blasted hard-right rival Jair Bolsonaro following news of an endorsement for Bolsonaro offered by right-wing American radical David Duke. Duke is former head of the Ku Klux Klan. In the twitter battle, Bolsonaro noted that he has repudiated the Duke endorsement. (see more)
- Bolsonaro aide says administration would adopt ‘zero-based budgeting.’ A top aide to presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro, Congressman Onyz Lorenzoni, told reporters an eventual Bolsonaro administration will adopt ‘zero-based budgeting.’ Under the practice, every aspect of the annual government budget must be analyzed and justified separately.
