Poll puts Bolsonaro, Marina Silva, Ciro Gomes in top positions. The Public Opinion Research Institute (IBOPE), in association with the Globo television network, released a new poll Wednesday night despite doubts about the legality of dropping former President Lula from its standard questionnaire. Without Lula, conservative candidate Jair Bolsonaro leads with 22% of voter intentions, followed by environmentalist Marian Silva with 12% and socialist Ciro Gomes with 12%. Centrist Geraldo Alckmin scored 9% while Fernando Haddad, the eventual substitute for Lula, obtained only 6%. (see more)

São Paulo prosecutors announce investigation of Alckmin campaign finances. Prosecutors in São Paulo announced they are investigating alleged campaign finance violations from the 2014 re-election effort of former Governor Geraldo Alckmin, now a presidential nominee. Alckmin denied the accusations, calling for an early end to the probe. (see more)

Supreme Court denies injunction to get Lula back on ballot. Supreme Court Justice Edson Fachin denied a motion by lawyers for former President Luiz Inácio Lula to Silva to get Lula back on the ballot for October’s presidential election. Fachin said the issue has already been decided by the Supreme Elections Court. Lula is being kept off the ballot because of a conviction for corruption. (see more)
