• IBOPE Poll: Bolsonaro consolidates leadership. Conservative candidate Jair Bolsonaro has consolidated his position as leader in the race to be Brazil’s next President, according to a poll released Tuesday night by the Public Opinion Research Institute (IBOPE). Bolsonaro has 26% of voter intentions, up from 20% in August. Other candidates trail badly. Left-leaning Ciro Gomes appears with 11%, followed by environmentalist Marina Silva and centrist Geraldo Alckmin, with 9% each. Newly minted Workers’ Party (PT) nominee Fernando Haddad garnered just 8%. (see more)
• Bolsonaro leaves intensive care unit. Conservative presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro has left the intensive-care unit of São Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital, the hospital said. Bolsonaro’s condition continues to improve following a knife attack last week. (see more)
• Haddad appears for the first time in TV ads as official PT candidate. Former São Paulo Mayor Fernando Haddad appeared for the first time Tuesday night in television ads as the official Workers’ Party nominee for President, replacing ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is serving a prison term for corruption. Haddad told viewers Lula was “the greatest President Brazil ever had.” (see more)
