Corporate Roundtable Series

March 27, 2019 by Gabriel Manetas

The Brazil-U.S. Business Council, through its Corporate Roundtable series, is advancing the dialogue towards establishing the institutional architecture that would strengthen economic cooperation.

President Bolsonaro’s visit during “Brazil Day in Washington” was a milestone to redefine the path forward for U.S.-Brazil partnership. However, despite the growing two-way trade and investment, the two largest economies and democracies in the Western Hemisphere have not made much progress towards establishing framework agreements that would strengthen economic cooperation.

The U.S. and Brazilian business communities have consistently expressed their views that a comprehensive trade agreement, a bilateral tax treaty, and a bilateral investment treaty are imperative for the future of the relationship.

The Brazil Council is laying the groundwork for these instruments with recently released reports –  A Roadmap to a U.S.-Brazil Bilateral Tax Treaty, Brazil and the U.S. A Roadmap to a Trade Agreement, and the Bilateral Investment Map, Brazil/USA (infographic) – and the dialogues to take place in the coming months as part of the Corporate Roundtable series.
