Visa Reform and Increasing U.S.-Brazil Travel

ShareThis
The Brazil-U.S. Business Council is actively involved with the efforts of the Discover America Partnership to expand travel between Brazil and the United States and advance visa and entry reforms that will enable the United States to regain the 17 percent market share of overseas travelers it had in 2000 by 2015.

The Partnership, under the leadership of the American Hotel and Lodging AssociationNational Restaurant AssociationNational Retail FederationU.S. Chamber of Commerce, and U.S. Travel Association, is at a unique position to craft policy recommendations aiming at streamlining the U.S. visa process and increasing the flow of travelers from Brazil to the United States.

Brazil is one of the fastest-growing markets, and Brazilians are one of the highest-spending visitors. Aiming to increase the number of Brazilian travelers visiting the United States, the U.S. Travel Association has suggested policy recommendations intended to create an expedited visa processing for business travelers and make consular services more affordable and accessible:

  • Expedite visa processing for business travelers by expanding the Business Travel Program, Business Travel Plus and the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Program throughout all Brazilian consulates.
  • Strengthen alliance with travel agents by expanding the Travel Agency Program and making it available at all consulates.
  • Make consular services more affordable and accessible to travelers by providing visa interview locations outside consulates.

The Brazil-U.S. Business Council applauds the introduction of the “Visa Improvements to Stimulate International Tourism to the United States of America Act” (VISIT USA Act). We endorse the work of the Discover America Partnership, and encourage you join and help efforts to increase travel between Brazil and the United States.
